Just saw the news...
on the passing away of our former DPM Rajaratnam.
He was the MAN, who come out with the PLEDGE of Singapore.
Our Pledge
We, the citizens of Singapore,
pledge ourselves as one united people,
regardless of race, language or religion,
to build a democratic society
based on justice and equality
so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and
progress for our nation.
Was reading ChannelNewsAsia about him.
He said something which is very meaningful, we term it as
"Hornet Analogy"
"Even elephants do not disturb a hornet's nest. The hornets are very small but if you go and disturb the hornets' nests, all the hornets join together and can make life miserable - no animal ever disturbs an hornet's nest though the nest is very small.
"So Singapore should be a hornet's nest, two-and-a- half million people, everyone is a bee with a sting."
So so true ...
That though we are small, we should stand together, united as one.
As what the pledge double-affirmed on this point.
Now then I know, he was also appointed SM before, other than Mr Lee and currently Mr Goh.
And that i read, 2 more days, will be his 91st bday....
While reading the news, it seriously touched me.
Bet if i were to watch the CNA clips, tributes on him, i will tear.
He was asked this question:
After his wife Piroska died in 1989, Mr Rajaratnam was asked about his thoughts on death and if he feared it.
He answered: "No, not death, but how one dies...one day, before the curtain closes, I would like to know, did I do something worthwhile?"
Bet everyone answered will be... YES
