Haa.. my title is so cute. :p
Well, i'm usually very concerned on utilities, even before having my own house.
As previously, I paid for my parents' utilities.. and were often shocked at how sky-high it can be ($300 a month?).
(since i pay, heartache ma)
Even though i don't pay now (since 2-3years back, i decide to give lump sum to my mom, and its up to her to pay.
Got 典故 for this (will update soon)
Back to the utilities for my new home.
Only two person for now.
Minimum cooking, since my mil cooks almost everyday and she loves for us to go back to eat.
Baking, once every week/fortnightly
Water usage, for boiling of water (realize its really not clean to drink from tap anymore)
Electricity: this is the killer for most families i guess.
As its the most expensive as compared to gas and water.
Usage mainly for:
- fan (almost everyday)
- 4-ticks: refrigerator (24x7, if not food will go bad)
- 4-ticks: invertor aircon (once/twice a week, from 10pm to 2-3am, then switch to fan)
- lightings (mainly for living area, cove lights if there's readings, else led downlights for other times at night
- sewing machine once a week
- ironing?
- water heater (only on for 5-7min)
I have to say, I'm still quite happy when seeing my utilities bills monthly, as its below $100.
Especially this month, its only $34.
July is highest, as its house-warming month, thus high-usage of electricity, gas, water in general.
Its important to get electrical appliances that are energy-saving.
These days, there's ticks to help us to determine.
Of course, the more ticks, the more the items will cost, thus has to weigh accordingly, depending on usage and lifespan of the appliances.
Main appliances i feel is a must to be 4-ticks will be aircon and refridgerator.
As for lightings, led is definitely energy-saving. However, the initial cost might be slightly high, but over the long run, its more lasting (thus, cost-saving over a period of like, 5 years? )
There are some items that simply cannot be energy-saving, such as ovens.
So, set a limit on how much to bake i guess? :p
Shall set a timer to submit own meter reading, so it will be more accurate, and cheaper i hope.
(SP Services usually estimated one month, and take actual reading for the other, thus estimated can reflect high if the previous month's usage is quite high, or reflect low if previous month usage is low - thus by submitting own meter reading online, can ensure a more accurate reading, plus some savings i hope, over a period of time)
